After visiting several shops that gave me outrageous estimates for an engine problem, the folks at Payne's fixed it for just a fraction of what other places would've charged. Nate and his team were very thorough; they communicated detailed updates and explained the steps they took throughout the troubleshooting and repair of my vehicle. They found an optimal solution for something that was over-diagnosed elsewhere, and gave excellent service for an honest price. I will be back in the future.

I was basically stranded because my battery just decided to up and die. I walked to Payne’s, not even being a client of theirs, and the owner dropped his lunch to come and help me and was very kind and helpful. Nathan went out of his way to help me. I’ll definitely return and be an actual customer!

I had a small issue with my right side mirror after it lost a war with a rogue recycling bin and they helped me fix the mirror back in place at no charge. They were super polite.

Payne’s was highly recommended to me by my cousin who lives in Durham. I wanted someone qualified to check out a preowned Outback for me before I bought it. They were very kind and fit me right in! They gave it the once over and gave me some good information. I bought the car and I’m very happy with it. I feel even better since I brought it here first.

These folks truly care about customers and know their stuff. Nate in particular has encyclopedic knowledge about his craft and is excellent at communicating technical knowledge in understandable fashion. If you're looking for a mechanic/shop that is hands-on, people over profit, reasonable pricing and thorough work etc., you should give Paynes a chance to earn your trust and business. (They do work on older cars too – there's always a few hidden gems from the 80s and 90s sitting on the lot.)
